3 Months Later...

YIKES!!! It happened again .... time flew by!! We are now 3 months later since my last post. First, I must apologize. Sorry Sorry Sorry :o( . Next, I must brag about all the fab things we have been doing in our class. I am proud to say that since the start of the year our classroom really has worked hard to adopt and shift towards the Common Core State Standards. This will take a bit more time for us all to adjust but I truly believe this is a step in the right direction. All grade level expectations can be read on engageny.org. As we learn and put in practice all our standards they are posted in our class for us to refer back to , be proud of and for all to see.
These post are just some of the shenanigans we have been up to.

Author's Purpose

One part of reading (and writing) is knowing the purpose of the text you are reading. Asking ourselves WHY did the author write this book? What was their purpose? We learn that simply an author writes to Entertain ; Persuade ; Inform . For a bit of practice, I had the students use our extra Scholastic Book Orders to see if they figure which category would fit some of the books...(thank you Pinterest)

Tech Our Classroom

Technology in our classroom appears in many ways for us. We utilize our schools iPad cart once a week ; we have our classroom iPad that is shared amongst the students throughout the day ; 2 classroom student computers; SMART Board; a computer lab that we sign out to use once a week; my personal kindle stops in to visit (when I remember it ). I am always looking for new websites - interactive activities - and new ways to use the resources I have...suggestions are welcomed!

Students were each given an object that was to be kept a "mystery" from the other students. Using what they knew about properties, they had to write about their object without telling us what it was. We then had the a few seconds to guess their mystery object.
