Rainforest Unit

For the past few weeks we have studied a variety of habitats. After getting an overview of what is out in our world we decided to focus out attention on the Rainforest. We have been doing a variety of activities. One of which is writing a non-fiction animal study of a specific animal. Each of my students have chosen an animal to become an expert on. The have researched their animal of choice by using the internet and the search engine kidrex.org. We have discovered what each of our animals eats, its predators, the part of the Rainforest Strata it lives in, body features and many more interesting facts!

Because we are acting as Safari Guides for this unit we each have our own Safari ID Tag that states our name and the animal we are an expert in...we even have our picture on it and we dressed the part :)

Thank you to a teacher who has shared her ideas on Pinterest and on the TeachersNotebook. (http://www.teachersnotebook.com/shop/dmlp). We have used her Safari people to help us post information as we learn about the Rainforest.

We learned that the Rainforest has different layers or Strata's. We made an information chart of the layers simply using a piece of construction paper, scissors, and crayons.

Another activity we have completed with our unit so far is a craft and information piece about snakes in the rainforest. We used paper plates and our knowledge about patterns to create snakes to hang on our vines in the classroom. Behind the snakes heads we wrote some facts we learned about them.

We are really enjoying this unit so far! Next writing adventure will be a fictional writing piece staring the animal we have chosen as the main character.
